Anchorwoman Debi Faubion announced today her intention to retire from her full time post as anchor of WSOC-TV's evening newscasts.
Following the expiration of her current contract in June 2009, she plans to devote her full attention to family, friends and the community work that has helped define her life in Charlotte. After nearly two decades as the region's top anchor, Faubion said giving up her full time anchor duties won't be easy.
"It is difficult to leave this business and my television family," she said. "My role at WSOC-TV has fulfilled my career dreams, but now it's time to focus on the community work that means so much to me."
Faubion joined the news team of Bill Walker, Harold Johnson and Ray Boylan in 1990. Since that time, the evening newscasts have remained No. 1 in the Charlotte market.
She has received four individual Emmy's, and has been part of many award winning newscasts at Channel 9. Over the years, readers and critics at Creative Loafing and Charlotte Magazine have voted Debi Best News Anchor, Best Reporter and Best Television Personality.
