A Statesville man is expected to be charged with stealing a shotgun and bulletproof vest from a deputy's car, authorities said.
Dan Tyson Holden, 24, is in custody in Gaston County on breaking and entering charges, and has been linked to taking the vest and shotgun from a deputy's car while it was parked at the officer's home.
On Thanksgiving weekend, Iredell County Sheriff's Deputy Keith Bills' patrol car was parked at his home off Buffalo Shoals Road when the shotgun and vest were taken.
Several other vehicles and a home were broken into in the same area during the same time period, said Lt. Andy Poteat of the Iredell County Sheriff's Office.
The patrol car and an outbuilding were broken into on Nov. 28.
Poteat said evidence and interviews led to Holden, who is in the Gaston County Jail.
Evidence was located at Holden's home that connected him to six investigations involving vehicle and home break-ins, Poteat said.
The investigation is continuing to see if Holden is linked to any other crimes, Poteat said.
Bills' shotgun and vest were recovered.
