Celeste Henkel Elementary School was awarded a $22,000 grant from Lowe's Charitable and Educational Foundation to fund the Lowe's Fitness Trail, a half-mile walking and fitness trail, and an outdoor science lab.
Join Brady Johnson, associate superintendent of Iredell-Statesville Schools, Kenny Miller, representative from Iredell-Statesville Schools, Steve Sheets, principal of Celeste Henkel, Daniel Farrington and J.R. Petty from the Lowe's of Statesville, students and staff as they cut the ceremonial red ribbon on the Lowe's Fitness Trail at 12:30 p.m. on Friday.
The maintenance crew at Celeste Henkel and other community volunteers have worked on building the trail since April and it is now complete.
The trail will help increase student cardiovascular fitness and strength and will be open to West Iredell County residents during all non-school hours. The outdoor classroom will provide students with hands-on opportunities to discover science when completed.
