Two separate candelight vigils are planned for Thursday to remember the victims of child abuse and domestic violence.
The 10th annual candlelight vigil for the children in North Carolina who died at the hands of a caregiver or loved one will be held Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at the Presbyterian Church of the Springs in Barium Springs. The ceremony will take about an hour, and will include the reading of the names of children in the state who have died since October 2007 as a result of child abuse. The public is invited to attend.
The second annual Not Tonight Domestic Violence Peace Intiative candelight vigil will take place at 7 p.m. at Statesville Covenant Cathedral on Wilson Lee Boulevard. This vigil is in recognition of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and that day has been proclaimed as Domestic Violence Day by Mayor Costi Kutteh and the Statesville City Council. Shelisa Martinez-Howard of the N.C. Coalition Against Domestic Violence will be the guest speaker. This event is also open to the public.
