The Iredell County Sheriff's Office will host a medical screening program conducted by Ultrascreen of West Jefferson on Feb. 7.
Appointments are required for the screening, which will include finger stick blood samples and ultrasound scans. Some insurance plans are accepted, including the Iredell County Flex Plan.
The finger stick blood sample will test for total cholesterol, HDL, LDL, triglycerides, non HDL-C, cardiovascular risk ratio and glucose (diabetes). The cost is $35. Do not drink coffee that morning. Also, the test will be for liver abnormalities and the cost is $25. No fasting is required.
The ultrasound scans will be of the carotid arteries for risk of stroke, and includes a scan of the thyroid gland for cancer. The cost is $50 and no fasting is required. Other tests include an abdominal ultrasound for early cancers of the liver, spleen, pancreas, adrenal gland and kidneys, kidney stones, gallstones and aortic aneurysm. The cost is $50. Fast for six hours before the test. Another test is an ultrasound for the loss of bone density (osteoporosis) and the cost is $29.
