Mooresville business featured in magazine

The Welcome Committee, Inc., a Mooresville-based newcomer greeting service that pairs up new Lake Norman residents and new homebuyers with local business and professional services, is featured in the February 2009 issue of Home Business Magazines' "Work from Home Success Stories."
Suzanne Meyer founded the Welcome Committee in December of 1998, the day her pink slip arrived from her former employer.
Welcome Wagon was selling their trademarked name and changing formats to direct mail. Having been a newcomer herself, Meyer knew what a valuable service the face-to-face welcome visit provided new residents. She wanted to continue the tradition of welcoming newcomers to the area, and officially launched her company in February 1999.
Ten years later, the Welcome Committee serves the Lake Norman region in four counties; Lincoln, Catawba, Iredell and Mecklenburg.
"Our Welcome Ambassadors personally visit over 200 newcomer households each month. Our goal is to get them plugged into the community as quickly as possible, easing their transition. By introducing them to the business services they need at a critical time in their decision-making process, we help them make connections and build relationships with area merchants," says Meyer. The Welcome Committee Ambassadors also provide local and state maps, distribute and promote community events and civic information, medical guides, coupons and gift certificates from local businesses, restaurants and non-profits.
Last year 91,000 newcomers moved to the greater Charlotte area, compared to 88,000 the year before. Despite the recent slowdown in home sales, the Lake Norman region is still a draw. The population is expected to increase 50% over the next 25 years, which will keep Meyer and her Welcome Committee Ambassadors busy for the next couple of decades.
