U.S. Marine Cpl. John Ward gave Thorlo an American flag that flew in Iraq as a way to say "Thanks for the socks."
Ward returned in December from his second tour in Operation Iraqi Freedom and brought home five flags that flew above the headquarters of MMT Team 131, 3rd Battalion, 6th Marine Infantry Regiment.
Ward presented one of the flags to Thorlo on Friday as a way to express his and his fellow Marines' gratitude to the people who helped Ward's father Dave with the supplies he sent to the troops in Iraq.
Thorlo Military Socks were just one of the items Dave Ward, who lives in Concord, purchased for the troops after spending time raising money.
"I know they are the best socks around," Dave Ward said.
Thorlo owner Jim Throneburg thanked Dave for being an advocate for the troops.
Cpl. Ward, who enlisted in 2005, said he wasn't at all surprised that his father took the time to raise money to buy supplies for his fellow Marines.
"It's my dad," he said, after the flag presentation. "He's been doing this all my life."
He said the troops appreciate receiving items from home.
"Anything we receive, we either use it or give it out to the locals," he said.
In an effort to help more soldiers, Thorlo has developed a Web site that will allow people to buy military socks at cost.
