Severe thunderstorm warning canceled; rain expected through the evening

STATESVILLE - 7:55 p.m.: The National Weather Service has canceled a severe thunderstorm warning for northern Iredell and eastern Catawbaw counties. The storm it was tracking has weakened.

7:05 p.m.: The National Weather Service has extended the warning to expire at 7:15 p.m. It said the storm is moving to the southeast and is weakening.

The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for Iredell County until 6:45 p.m.

Radar showed a strong thunderstorm moving through Alexander County. The weather service said it could produce pea-sized hail, and wind gusts up to 40 m.p.h. Heavy rains and localized flooding are expected with this storm as well.

Locations affected include, but not limited to, Taylorsville, Stony Point, Scotts, Millersville, Love Valley, Hiddenite and Ellendale.

Weather radar shows two cells right over Hiddenite and and slowly moving toward Statesville, predicted to be over the city within the hour.

If you encounter flooded areas, do not try to cross it but report it to local law enforcement.
