UPDATE: The National Weather Service has re-issued a severe thunderstorm warning for Catawba and Iredell counties until 7:15 p.m.
At 6 p.m., radar showed a line of thunderstorms headed toward the east. These storms are capable of producing penny-sized hail and destructive winds in excess of 70 m.p.h. The storms are moving east at 45 m.p.h.
Locations affected include: Terrell, Love Valley, Lake Norman, Union Grove, Troutman, Mooresville, Turnersburg, Harmony and Mount Ulla.

Radar shows that strong storms capable of producing hail and 60-mph wind gusts are moving toward the Newton area. Possible affected areas include Lake Norman, Terrell, Catawba, Troutman, Mooresville and Statesville.
Most of western North Carolina is under a severe thunderstorm watch, as numerous showers and strong to severe thunderstorms will move into the area from Tennessee this afternoon and evening. Storms are moving at 25 m.p.h. Heat and humidity are feeding into the unstable air and could produce intense storms with very strong wind gusts, hail and lightning, and a heavy bursts of rainfall.
