CHARLOTTE - As summer goes, the weather this week in the Charlotte metro region couldn't get much better.
There'll be plenty of sunshine. Temperatures will be quite warm, but not above normal and certainly not oppressive. And the humidity will be quite low.
Morning temperatures will be in the middle 60s -- nice for this time of year.
But a little rain wouldn't hurt.
After piling up a big surplus of precipitation in a three-week stretch from late May until mid June, the area is being left high and dry. Forecasters say the storm track has shifted to the north, which is providing the Midwest, Great Lakes and Middle Atlantic states will plenty of rain.
In the Southeast, however, it's getting a bit dry. Measurable rain hasn't fallen since June 17, and forecasters say it will be at least a week before there's rain in the Charlotte area.
In an area which just emerged from drought-caused water use restrictions, any dry spell is a bit nerve-wracking.
Otherwise, we can expect great conditions for the next week.
A low pressure system over southern Canada is dragging dry and slightly cooler air into the Carolinas.
That means daily high temperatures will be in the upper 80s to near 90, with morning lows well below 70 degrees. No change is seen through the July 4 weekend.
