Former SPD officer named assistant chief in North Wilkesboro

Scott Teague, a former Statesville Police Department officer, is the new assistant chief for the North Wilkesboro Police Department.
Teague attended basic law enforcement training at Wilkes Community College in 1996, and began working at the Statesville Police Department in April 1997. He worked as a full- and part-time officer at Statesville until coming to North Wilkesboro in April.
As a full-time officer with the SPD, Teague worked in the patrol, community services and narcotics divisions. He served as a public housing, crime prevention/community relations and COPS officer as well as on the Special Operations Team (SOT), which deals with street level drug interdiction. He also served on the department's Special Response Team (SRT) as a hostage negotiator. He was a field training officer for the SPD as well.
He is a certified law enforcement instructor with the state of North Carolina, working as a general, firearms and baton instructor. Teague is certified to teach many of the state mandated annual training topics. In August 2003, Teague was awarded his advance law enforcement certificate, which is the highest law enforcement certification offered by the state's Criminal Justice Education and Standards Commission.
As a reserve officer with the SPD, Teague received the rank of reserve officer III/training officer, and served as the in-service training coordinator for the SPD. He taught many of the in-service training sessions for the SPD, and is one of the firearms instructors for the SPD.
Teague earned a bachelor of science degree in criminal justice and psychology from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte in 1994. In 2003, he earned his master of arts degree in political science and justice studies from Appalachian State University.
During his tenure as a reserve officer at the SPD, Teague worked in the North Carolina Community College system as the BLET school director at Forsyth Technical Community College on Winston-Salem and as department chair of the social and behavioral sciences division. He also worked for Mitchell Community College as the criminal justice program coordinator.
Teague continues to teach part-time at Forsyth Tech and has taught part-time for ASU and Less McRae College.
