Four people were charged in connection with a child abduction and burglary.
Matthew Ryan Hoover, 35, Kimberly Wilson Combs, 48, April Nicole Combs, 19, and Sue Hoover Green, 42, all of Alexander County, face charges of abduction of a child, first-degree burglary and aiding and abetting first-degree burglary.
Sheriff Phil Redmond said deputies responded to a call on Scotts View Drive on Monday.
Deputies spoke with a woman at the residence, who said she was the girlfriend of the child's father.
She said she was babysitting an infant while the father was at work, and she heard a knock on the door, Redmond said.
The girlfriend told deputies the woman identified herself as Sue Green and said she was with the Department of Social Services and was there to check on the well-being of the child.
She said she opened the door and let the woman inside. The woman walked over and picked the baby up and as the girlfriend was closing the door, she noticed two other people walking to the door, Redmond said.
The girlfriend told deputies she recognized the two as Kimberlie Combs, the grandmother of the baby, and her boyfriend, Hoover.
She told them they couldn't come inside, but Hoover forced his way in with Combs following, Redmond said.
Hoover, she said, told her he was there for the baby and wasn't leaving without him.
Redmond said Green carried the baby to the car, and April Combs, the baby's mother, was waiting inside.
Deputy John Adams obtained felony warrants on all four, and they were arrested.
The baby was returned safely to his father.
