Iredell County resident Jonathan E. Fultz died of injuries sustained from a single vehicle wreck in Rowan County on Saturday.

Fultz, 21, was driving a 2007 Jeep south on Shinn Farm Road in Rowan County around 3 a.m. when he crossed the center line, over corrected, went off the road, hit a mailbox, embankment and overturned, according to the N.C. Highway Patrol.

Fultz, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected from the vehicle, authorities said.

Fultz was transported to Lake Norman Regional Medical Center, where he later died.

A passenger, Ashley Louise McCloud, 26, of Troutman, was taken by Rowan County EMS to Lake Norman Regional Medical Center.

Police arrest suspect in car break-ins
There were several car break -ins near Davie Avenue over the weekend.

Officers responded to a breaking and entering at 241 Ramsey Court on Oct. 31.

James Rickert said he got out of bed around 12:45 a.m., looked out of his window and saw something moving in his car.

He then went outside and saw a black male, who was later identified as Travis Edward Williams, 36, of 311 South Oak Street, exiting his vehicle through the back window.

Two officers later made contact with Williams walking west on Stockton Street.

When he was approached by officers, Williams dropped a black metal object, which turned out to be a Sony Amplifier belonging to Rickert.

Williams also had possession of two Social Security cards belonging to other people, police said. Those cards were tied to people's whose cars were also broken into.

Rickert was taken to the Iredell County jail. As officers were walking him into the jail, Williams got out of one of his handcuffs and ran across the parking lot before being apprehended.

Williams is a habitual felon and was on parole from the N.C. Department of Corrections.

Anderson said they believe Williams may be tied to other break-ins in the area.

Anderson cautions everyone during the holidays to secure their belongings.

Two charged with filing false police reports
Statesville police charged two men with filing false reports over the weekend.

Officers were dispatched to 707 Gaither Road after a caller reported an armed robbery, Police Chief Tim Anderson said.

When officers spoke with Timothy Allen Shew, told them he had been robbed.

Officers then gave a "be on the lookout" to officers in the area and also did a K-9 search track, which proved unsuccessful.

After another subject told officers Shew was lying, Shew then admitted to using the robbery story as a cover up story, Anderson said.

Shew was taken into custody and charged with filing a false police report and misusing 911.

He has a $3,000 secured bond.

Police officers also charged Richard Neal Lemmond Jr. with filing a false report after he claimed that an armed robbery had occurred at 1245 Wilkesboro Highway.

Lemmond claimed he was approached by a black male who demanded money. Lemmond said he handed over $300 and then the suspect got into a black Pontiac Grand Prix.

During their investigation, officers learned Lemmond knew the alleged suspect and gave him $300 for drugs, but the man took his money and didn't provide the drugs, Anderson said.
