If your dishwasher isn't getting all the grime off or the refrigerator has seen better days, this weekend might be your best chance to save money on a new one.
The Energy Star Tax Free weekend started early this morning and will end on Sunday at 11:59 p.m.
All Energy Star Qualified products with the Energy Star label will be exempt from the state's 7.75 percent sales tax.
A few local stores are offering additional discounts.
Qualified items on the N.C. Department of Revenue's Web site include clothes washers, freezers, refrigerators, central air conditioners, room air conditioners, air-source heat pumps, geothermal heat pumps, ceiling fans, dehumidifiers, and programmable.
There is no price limit as is the case with items sold during the August sales tax holiday for clothing, school supplies and computers.
Items purchased for use in a trade or business and rentals are not covered by the exemption and will be subject to the applicable tax, according to the Department of Revenue.
