The game is up.
Today is the last day of the Greater Statesville Chamber of Commerce's Truth or Dare program to promote shopping locally.
For the past month, the chamber has challenged the community on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays with facts on how shopping locally benefits the community and offered discounts to push people into area businesses.
"I think it's been quite interesting," said David Bradley, CEO and president of the Greater Statesville Chamber. "I think it's developed some intriguing dialogue."
During the first week, the chamber received several phone calls asking where to locate the coupons on its Web site, he said.
It wasn't hard to come up with the truths. The trouble was coming up with the collective dares that fit businesses from different commercial sectors, Bradley said.
The first dare was to shop for Thorlo socks to promote foot care and local jobs. Other dare included eating healthy, wellness and car care.
Thorlo Consumer Operations Manager Angie Bass said they were pleased with the number of people who accepted the dare.
"We are excited," she said. "We continue to have folks come in and mention our partnership with the Statesville Chamber of Commerce."
Amanda Beard, director of sports performance at Gaston Rehab Associates, said the practice offered three moths for $99 if the customer joined before today. She said the idea of promoting health in Iredell County was appealing.
"Our whole intention is to bring attention to something they don't know about," Beard said.
She said the business had a number of new clients during the campaign, although she couldn't say off hand if it was because of the Truth or Dare campaign.
Bradley said the feedback from participating businesses has been positive.
"We know people have been intrigued," he said. "In general, I think it worked out very well."
The coupons will remain on the chamber's Web site until the end of the month.
