Two men were captured escaping from a home after breaking in on a woman and her infant child, authorities said
Dashawn Nathaniel Clark, 20, and Tyrell Dontay Daniels, 19, both of Statesville, were charged with first-degree burglary, safecracking, attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon, damage to property and consuming alcohol under age 21.
The Iredell County Sheriff's Office received a call around 8:40 p.m. Thursday that a breaking and entering in progress was occurring at a home on West Valley Lane, Statesville.
A woman and her baby occupied the residence.
Sgt. Chris Smith and Deputies Nathan Speaks and Adam Blackburn arrived and found the front door had been kicked in and a safe was lying in the living room floor.
The deputies, Sheriff Phil Redmond said, noticed two men dressed in dark clothing trying to escape out a back door.
The two were detained.
A 40-caliber handgun was found on the floor, and it was determined both had been drinking alcohol, Redmond said.
Detective Sgt. Brian Boyd arrived, and processed the scene. He then charged the two.
Clark was also wanted on an outstanding warrant for probation violation, Redmond said.
Both were jailed in lieu of a $75,000 bond each.
