For the second time in as many weeks, the Family Dollar store on West Front Street was robbed.
A lone gunman forced employees to the floor Thursday morning and took money from the safe and register, said Capt. Bill Riter of the Statesville Police Department.
On Oct. 19, two armed men robbed the store, and struck one of the employees on the head. No one has been charged in that robbery.
Thursday morning, around 8:30 a.m., the man entered the store, demanded that a customer leave the store, and then forced a clerk to the floor, Riter said.
He ordered her to open the safe, which she did. Riter said the then ordered the manager to the floor and demanded she open the register.
After getting money from the register and safe, the suspect fled the store, apparently on foot.
He was described as a black male, six-feet tall with a slim build. He was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, blue jeans and covered his face with a bandanna. He was also wearing black and red tennis shoes.
Riter said the surveillance footage from the robbery did not capture a clear photo of the suspect.
