Published: September 3, 2009

In keeping with the guidelines and procedures of our new 4A athletic conference, Mooresville High School will begin using metal detectors at all home varsity football games beginning this Friday, Sept. 4.

"The purpose behind our district using metal detectors is to help maintain a safe environment for all our spectators and athletes," said Stephen Mauney, director of operations for the Mooresville Graded School District.

Items such as pocketknives and smaller cutting instruments as well as weapons will not be allowed in the stadium and are prohibited on all school property.

Although MHS plans to have at least two security officers at each main entrance to the stadium that will operate the metal detectors, fans should plan on additional time to enter the stadium.

Spectators are also reminded that all MGSD property is now tobacco-free.

In adhering to North Carolina law, smoking and the use of tobacco products is prohibited anywhere on school property.

The MGSD appreciates your support of its efforts to maintain a safe and healthy environment for all who attend our events.
