Famous for its Big League Fried Dog, the The Big League Hot Dog Company in Mooresville has a baseball-themed décor, with pictures of local teams in Mooresville and North Carolina and memorabilia lining the walls.
Servers in red and blue baseball jerseys give you your choice of hot dogs, sausages, burgers, chicken or seafood. Dogs range in price from $2.50 to $3.95 and have toppings like chili, their original recipe of slaw, cheese and free additions such as mustard, ketchup, mayo, onions, relish or peppers, to name a few. You can also fix up bratwurst and kielbasa, as I did.
I chose to top my $3.75 kielbasa with ketchup, mustard and diced onions, and added fries and a drink for the "Triple Play" for $2.25 more. The kielbasa was tender and juicy, but really big, so if you have a smaller appetite, you can split it with a friend and enjoy the crispy fries with no problem.
If you're not in the mood for a dog, you can try the buffalo chicken sliders with ranch or bleu cheese dressing, the grilled chicken breast on a bun or the Big League veggie burger with your choice of toppings, a clam roll or shrimp basket or the chicken tender basket. Most choices run from $3 to $6.
Side dishes include original, buffalo, sweet potato, chili cheese and garlic fries, as well as kettle chips, onion rings, fried pickle spears, mini-corn dogs, slaw or chili. Prices for side items range from $2 to $3.50. Parents can also get a refreshing 16-ounce beer on tap for $2.35.
Kid's meals are available for $3.75, with a choice of a hot dog, mini corn dogs or fried chicken mitts with fries or chips and a soda or juice box.
If you've got extra room after your meal, try treats such as fried brownies or bananas foster with chocolate, caramel or raspberry sauce, or funnel cake to top off the experience for $3.75.
