Virginia made the first offer that day, Florida offered him a scholarship the next day, and Wake Forest extended an offer Tuesday.

    On the issue of split conferences, the six high schools in Iredell County are split. The lines are drawn between the two classifications that will be in Iredell County when the new alignment takes effect in fall 2013.

    South Iredell lost one of its own in December 2011 when Brittany Newton was killed in a fatal car accident. The Vikings came up with a way to honor the junior who spent two years on the junior varsity team and, this year, played on the summer league team before taking statistics during varsity games.

    South Iredell ended the first half of its conference schedule Tuesday with a 73-45 matinee loss at home to second-place East Burke. The game started at 5:30 p.m. because Iredell-Statesville Schools has exams this week.

    The I-Meck Conference swimming championships are Saturday at the Mecklenburg County Aquatic Center. Lake Norman’s girls look to defend their title, while the boys attempt to improve on their runner-up finish last season, when Hough edged them by a slim 26-point margin.

  • Mooresville boys lack depth

    Mooresville’s starting five is a solid starting five. Kendrick Johnson, Brandon Bego, Shawn Lester, Dre Howell and Raphael Montgomery are good unit when on the floor together. That showed Friday in the Blue Devils’ 81-70 win over crosstown rival Lake Norman.
