The Mooresville Police Department held its second annual Fallen Officer Ceremony for those officers who have died in the line of duty in Iredell County. The annual event is held every May 15 during National Police Week. Along with the reading of the nine officers names who died in the line of duty, awards were presented to officers within the Mooresville Police Department.

Hundreds of Mooresville residents gathered in downtown Friday night as Patriot Guard Riders from Virginia and North Carolina escorted Cpl. Garrett Carnes into downtown Mooresville for a "Heroes Welcome Home" ceremony on April 20. The 22-year-old Marine was injured while serving in Afghanistan in February after an IED exploded causing him to lost parts of both legs. He is currently receving treatment along with physical therapy at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, MD.

A final account from junior Megan Halbedl, Mooresville police, and a Mooresville Rescue Squad member on the dangers of distracted driving was given after the mock wreck demonstration.
Several students in the senior drama class at Pine Lake Preparatory participated in a “life-like” mock wreck last Friday morning. Fellow classmates watched rescue workers go through the motions to safely get the “crash victims” out of the car. This is the second year the school has been awarded grant monies for the school’s Project Ignition campaign, a campus-wide campaign that aims to educated students about the dangers of distracted and drunk driving. The student led campaign is overseen by junior Megan Halbedl, who will be using the research from the campaign for her senior project. This year, the program is geared toward all three schools on the campus. Assisting with the mock wreck were the Mooresville Rescue Squad, Mooresville police and fire departments, two Iredell County coroners and Empire Towing who supplied the wrecked vehicle.
Lake Norman Regional Medical Center welcomes its newest tool, the RP-7 robot. When a patient enters the hospital exhibiting signs of a stroke, the robot will conduct a Skype-like call to contact stroke experts at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. The patient can see the Wake Forest physician on the screen mounted at the top of the robot and with the help of a LNRMC ED or CCU RN, the doctor will be able to assess the severity of the stroke by monitoring the patient's reactions and suggest treatment options. LNRMC hopes that the robot will be able to diagnose stroke victims more quickly and easily. Hospital staff is currently being trained on the RP-7 and the robot will be put to use in May.

Onlookers check out a pink fire truck Sunday which was donated by the Lake Norman Volunteer Fire Department and "tricked out" by Outcast Kustoms to raise cancer awareness throughout Iredell County. The truck, named "Patricia" in memory of the mother of an LKNVFD member, will be displayed at Relay for Life events as an educational tool in fighting cancer. A parade through Lakeside Park by vehicles from 11 area fire departments preceded the truck's unveiling to show their support. The event was also filmed as part of Outcast Kustoms' reality TV show, which will debut on the Velocity Channel on March 26. The fire truck's unveiling will be shown sometime in April.
