WHAT: Call for entries to Muzak Heart & Soul Foundation's 3rd Annual Battle of the Bands, a competition open to high school students in Mecklenburg and surrounding counties. Entries are due Wednesday, January 7, 2009.
WHO: Bands comprised of high school students — personal, "garage" bands, not school bands — from Mecklenburg and surrounding counties.
WHEN: The Battle will be held Saturday, March 7, 2009, at the Neighborhood Theatre. Preliminary auditions will be held February 7. Entries are due Wednesday, January 7.

BACKGROUND: Your help is needed to spread the word about Battle of the Bands, a contest in which high school bands compete for the title of "best band," along with prize packages designed to help realize their professional music dreams. First prize includes:
16 hours of recording studio time to create a professionally-recorded demo
One-year Sonicbids subscription
One-year Onlinegigs subscription
One song played within a Muzak program that is heard by millions of people every day
$100 gift certificate from Sam Ash Music
One copy of Battle of the Bands Video Production for personal promotional use
200 copies of band's demo produced by Muzak for band to distribute or sell
In the 2007 and 2008 competitions, bands from Charlotte, Fort Mill, Mooresville, Rock Hill, Statesville and Wingate performed for a panel of community judges and more than 500 adoring fans, playing a combination of original and cover songs. Both judges and audience members gave top honors to The Verge (Statesville, NC) in 2007 and Rekless Youth (Wingate) in 2008.
