I can't vote because I am not 18 years old yet. If I could vote, I would be voicing my opinion in every single election, never forfeiting this precious right I have as an American.
I hope that citizens in our great state understand the importance of their votes, the importance of getting to the polls, and the importance of their opinions, however varied they may be. Because, in my mind, if you fail to exercise your basic right to vote and make a change, you also forfeit your right to criticize the institution that you failed to oppose.
As this monumental election approaches, it is extremely important that the citizens of our area get to the polls, urge their fellow brothers and sisters to get to the polls and stand up for their beliefs. Because, although I cannot vote, even I can change the election.
I can change the election through voicing my opinion and calling others to take a stand because, after all, this election's outcome will affect my age group more than any other.
As you go to the polls, I hope you take into account how your vote has the power to impact the lives of the young people of this state.
I hope that you look back into the heart of the past eight years and understand that we do not need more of the same. We desperately need change.
And to bring this change we need more than a president, we also need a Congress to back that president. This change can only be brought about in one way — by replacing the old with the new.
This means a vote for Barack Obama, Kay Hagan and Daniel Johnson. Let us bring change to North Carolina. Let us bring back America.
