After a day in the saddle, cowboys and cowgirls need a hearty meal.

However, for the past couple of years, getting anything beyond a hamburger or chicken fingers at the General Store and Café required visitors to the Cowboy Capital to drive down to Statesville.

Until this year, when Bob and Judy Adams finished remodeling the kitchen of the Silver Spur Saloon and added a restaurant to the end of the establishment's name and a menu that includes steak and a hand-patted Andy Barker Burger.

"It's been greatly needed," said resident Bob Saxton. "They serve good food here."

This isn't Love Valley's first restaurant. Places like Circle K and the Hitch n Rail have also filled up hungry cowboys in the past.

Many customers wanted Bob and Judy Adams to re-open the kitchen, which had stopped serving food before the couple purchased the business.

"It was a demand," Judy said. "The General Store doesn't serve what we serve. A lot of people don't just want to grab a bite."

The couple moved to Love Valley nearly four years ago and purchased the Silver Spur. They'd been visitors to the small town in the northwest corner of Iredell County for several years and decided to settle down there.

They've made several renovations to the saloon since taking over, including adding a sports bar in the back.

Judy said they wanted to be open by Easter weekend, which is when a lot of tourists ride into town. It took a lot of work to bring it up to code.

"It's what we wanted to do," Judy said. "This is how we make our living."

Bob said their ultimate goal is to create a unique environment that attracts visitors from all over. One day, they hope to have carriage rides from the parking lot to the saloon.

The saloon does serve breakfast for the late risers. The kitchen opens around noon and closes at midnight.

During the weekdays, the bar menu, which includes pizza and poppers, is available to customers at the outside bar.
