The Statesville Police Department charged a man with using a stolen credit card.

Eric Mull of Statesville was charged with nine counts of obtaining property by false pretense, said SPD Chief Tom Anderson.

Anderson said a woman reported that her purse was stolen from her vehicle, which was parked behind Beth and Co. on North Center Street on Tuesday. In the two hours between the time the woman left her car and returned to find her purse missing, her credit card was used nine times at a grocery store, a discount store and a pharmacy, Anderson said.

Police retrieved surveillance footage from the stores and identified the suspect as Mull, who has a criminal history of larceny and other crimes dating back to 1979, Anderson said.

Investigator Crystal Scott obtained nine warrants for obtaining property by false pretense.

When police went to arrest Mull, Anderson said, he fled on foot, and after a short foot chase, was apprehended.
