Children's theatre collaboration to open in new theatre

The Davidson Community Players youth theatre - the Connie Company, in collaboration with the Davidson College Department of Theatre - invite children and families to productions of the classic fairy tale "Cinderella" Jan. 23-25.

Davidson students will play all the roles in the production.

Performances will be Friday, Jan. 23, at 4:30 and 7 p.m.; Saturday, Jan. 24, at 10 a.m., 2:30 p.m., and 4:30 p.m.; and Sunday, Jan. 25, at 12:30 p.m., 2:30 p.m., and 4:30 p.m. All performances are in the Cunningham Theatre Center's new Barber Theatre.

Tickets are $7 general admission and may be reserved from 9 a.m. to noon beginning Friday, Jan. 16, by calling 704-892-7918. Reservations are strongly encouraged.

Melissa Ohlman-Roberge directs the play as it was interpreted by the late Rupert T. Barber, Jr. Proceeds from the performances will benefit the college's Rupert Barber Scholarship and the North Carolina Theatre Conference's Constance Welsh Memorial Scholarship.

The lead role of Cinderella is played by Davidson sophomore Rebecca Goudarzi. Her fairy Godmother is played by senior Alea Skwara, and her handsome prince is junior Ben Bashinski. Junior Maret Seitz and junior Matt Baum play the roles of the wicked stepsisters, and freshman Madison Rigger is the evil stepmother. The narrator for the performance is senior Suzanne Lenz. Also appearing are first year students William Koster, Chipper Jones, Katie Fahy, and sophomore Megan Endersby.
