Six Mooresville players had multiple hits Sunday, and the Moors continued to get stronger late in the season with a 15-9 win over Wilmington in the American Legion state championship tournament.
Nathan Abraham and Chase LeVan led the hit parade with three apiece, sending Mooresville (20-12) into the finals of the winner's bracket.
Mooresville will play either Rowan County today at 7:30 p.m. in the finals of the winner's bracket. The loser will still be alive in the double-elimination tournament.
If the Moors keep swinging like they have been in the tournament thus far, they will be a tough out.
Eric Manser, Dylan West, Jacob Mays and Michael Gatton all had two hits for Mooresville as well.
West hit the game's lone home run, while Abraham added four RBIs from the leadoff spot.
Mooresville trailed by two runs after the second inning, but scored four runs in the third inning and never looked back.
Leading 8-7 after six, the Moors scored seven runs over the final three innings to take a 15-7 lead into the bottom of the ninth.
Wes Dumford pitched four innings as Mooresville's starting pitcher. He gave up nine hits and six runs before giving way to Taylor Thurber.
Thurber, who picked up the save in Saturday's 5-4 win against Rocky Mount, also went four innings.
He gave up two runs in the ninth inning, which opened the door for Ross Whitley, Mooresville's late-inning specialist.
Whitley pitched a perfect ninth-inning to seal the victory.
