A Huntersville man was killed when he was hit in the head with a metal pole while working at a construction site on Lake Norman late Tuesday afternoon.

Guadalupe Figuerora, 45, died at the scene off Culpeze Road, which is located off Blume Road off Brawley School Road.

The Iredell County Sheriff's Office investigated the death and said it appears to be accidental.
Lt. Todd Carver said Figuerora was working on a barge building a sea wall at a residence on Culpeze Road Tuesday afternoon.

The barge was being stabilized by a long metal pole, and when that pole was being pulled out, it swung around and hit Figuerora in the head, Carver said.

Figuerora fell into the water, and co-workers immediately pulled him out and called 911.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) through the N.C. Department of Labor is investigating the Figuerora's death since it occurred on a job site.

Figuerora worked for CBC Construction, and had been employed there for about seven years, Carver said.
