An honor we all can share

»  Comments | Post a Comment

Everyone in Mooresville should be excited -- or at the very least, pleased – about our neighbor Statesville being named an All-America City.

Our county seat was presented the 2009 honor Friday during the competition finals within the National Civic League in Tampa, Fla. Only Nine other U.S. cities were chosen (see story on page 3A.)

This is Statesville's second All-America City award. The first came in 1997. This time, the city was saluted for the community's support of nonprofits like Fifth Street Shelter Ministries, the Boys & Girls Club of the Piedmont and Mi Familia.

But while Statesville rightly gets to beam over its selection, the joy should be shared by the rest of Iredell County. All of us will no doubt benefit from this honor, in the form of heightened interest among companies and businesses looking to relocate to the South in general and North Carolina in particular.

This All-America City honor, plus the high rankings that the Mooresville and Statesville economic development organizations garner every year, affirm what many of us already know – that Iredell is a great place to live and work.

We salute Statesville for its splendid award.
