¿Habla español? Throughout the summer, the Mooresville and Davidson recreation departments will offer kids an opportunity to delve into and learn another language with their Spanish Summer Camps.
"Learning Spanish is a plus nowadays and starting to learn a new language at a young age is a must," said instructor Abigayl Pansini.
"Experts have proven that early exposure to a foreign language has been scientifically linked to higher IQ scores, improved English and math scores, a richer vocabulary and more."
The two area recreation departments will host five sessions of the program this summer, each covering its own language-related material while infusing fun activities, movies, music and movement into every class, said Pansini.
"Being a mother of two bilingual kids, I am passionate about teaching my language to children in a way that makes learning fun," she added, noting that she's a native Spanish speaker who currently teaches the language at several area schools.
In Mooresville, the first session will be held June 15-19 and the second June 22-26, from 9 a.m.-noon. The third session, 9 a.m.-12:45 p.m., will be June 29-July 2.
In Davidson, only two sessions will be held: Aug. 10-14 and Aug. 17-21. Both will run from 9 a.m.-noon.
She added, "This is also a good opportunity to give a head start to children who will start a new school year where Spanish will be taught."
The cost of each session is $160 and parents can sign their child up for one or all sessions.
