Showing we're proud

Enthusiasm for Statesville's All-America City campaign is growing daily.

What began last year as a low-key effort by a committee of the city's most dedicated boosters is nearing a crescendo.

Members of the new Boys & Girls Club of the Piedmont and Statesville High School's awesome drumline have signed on to be part of the city delegation that travels to Tampa, Fla., next month to convince the National Civic League that Statesville is worthy of this honor.

Sending a 50-person contingent to the Sunshine State is no small undertaking.

And, at $700 per person, it's not cheap.

At a time when money is tight and the economic outlook is uncertain, local businesses have contributed thousands of dollars to the effort.

Local sock manufacturer Thorlo is one of the many companies supporting the campaign. For every pair of socks sold at the company's local outlet during the next 25 days, the company will contribute a dollar to the campaign.

We support this effort and encourage everyone who loves our city to get on the bandwagon.
