An armed robbery suspect was taken into custody just moments after he committed the offense Monday night.
Statesville Police Department Assistant Chief Bill Halliburton said that Marcus Dicarlo Morrison, 20, of Statesville, was arrested on charges of armed robbery, assault by pointing a gun and carrying a concealed weapon.
Halliburton said a man was accosted by a suspect in the parking lot of Food Lion on Davie Avenue around 7:30 p.m. Monday.
He said the suspect pointed a silver handgun at the man and demanded his wallet.
After getting the wallet, the suspect took the money and threw the wallet on the ground, and then ran away on foot, Halliburton said.
Officers circulated the area, and an officer on Forest Park Drive spotted a man matching the suspect's description.
The victim identified the suspect.
Halliburton said a canine was used to check the area, and the dog found a silver handgun in the bushes about 4 feet from where Morrison was apprehended.
