The N.C. State High School Athletic Association called an audible on Lake Norman.
When the preliminary playoff brackets were released Saturday afternoon, the Wildcats were seeded No. 8 in the 4AA West bracket.
That guaranteed them a first-round home playoff game in what has already been a record season.
When the final brackets were released later in the evening, however, the Wildcats dropped to No. 9.
That means they'll go on the road to challenge West Forsyth (9-2), which was originally slotted at the No. 9 seed.
Fresh off a second consecutive win over Mooresville, the Wildcats have eight wins, already the most in school history, and a chance to do some damage.
It would get really tough if Lake Norman advanced, though.
The winner of Friday's game will, in all likelihood, play at Matthews Butler (10-1), one of the state's most powerful program.
South Iredell and West Iredell also made the cut in their respective classifications.
The Warriors, who finished the year 5-6, earned a No. 14 seed in the 3A West Region.
That puts them up against No. 3 seed Asheville (10-0-1), which has won 10 consecutive games.
Should the Warriors win, they would hit the road again and play the winner of the Franklin-Hunter Huss matchup.
The Vikings (4-7), meanwhile, earned the No. 15 seed in the 2AA West bracket for the second consecutive season.
They have a rematch against Catawba Valley Athletic Conference foe Bandys (10-1), which is the No. 2 seed.
Awaiting the winner in the second round will be either No. 7 Newton-Conover (10-1) or No. 10 Piedmont (7-4).
