Mooresville's boys cross country team has gotten most of the accolades over the last few years, and rightfully so.
The Blue Devils built up a tremendous program and won three consecutive 3A state titles.
Next year, however, it might be the Blue Devils' girls cross country squad that grabs the headlines.
Emily Nesbitt had a terrific junior campaign, and the emerging Blue Devils will return six of their top seven runners.
"It's definitely going to be two different stories" next year, Blue Devils coach Michael Royal said. "The girls will have a lot of experience. We'll be senior heavy. We're hoping to run well and run better than we did this year."
The Blue Devils didn't necessarily run poorly this season, but were wrought with injuries and illnesses again.
But with Nesbitt, Nicole Charnock and plenty of depth, Mooresville hopes to qualify for the 4A state championship and have a strong showing.
Meanwhile on the boys side, Mooresville will be in a different position.
The Blue Devils graduate six of their top seven runners, including all-state selection Josh Cox.
"We'll be counting on some younger guys," Royal said. "We're losing a good group of guys. But the tradition they have helped built up, those guys will pass it one and someone else will pick it up."
