Iredell Cancer Fund food sale slated for Nov. 21

Organizers of the 18th annual Holiday Food Sale for the Iredell Cancer Fund hope this year's event can rival that of years past.

The sale will start at 8 a.m. Nov. 21 at Christ Boulevard Methodist Church on East Broad Street in the fellowship hall and will go until noon.

Volunteers are asked to donate homemade goods, such as desserts, casseroles, canned goods, preserves and more to be sold during the sale.

Volunteers should drop off the items from 3-7 p.m. Nov. 20 at the church.

The proceeds from the sale will go to the cancer fund's operating budget.

"All the money we raise stays in Iredell County," said 17-year volunteer Kelly T. Johnson.

Johnson said organizers hope to raise at least $2,000 this year. In years past, the sale commonly raised more than $3,500.

The funds raised will assist cancer patients on a monthly basis with medical bills, utilities, rent, medicine, gas cards and more, depending on the need.

According to Johnson, the fund provides some $600 a month in assistance.

"If the funds are there, we try and help them," she said.

Along with the foods available for sale, the C.W. Applewhite Women's mission group from Western Avenue Baptist Church will raffle a quilt.

The food sale and an antique truck and car show in the spring are the only fundraisers of the charity, which also relies on private donations.
