South Iredell's boys basketball team has a new coach in Jim Blackwell, but that's practically the only thing that has changed since last season.
The Vikings are rife with seniors and, from the starting lineup to the bench, return one of the most experienced squads in the county.
"I have nine seniors and will also end up with four or five juniors," Blackwell said. "We're going to be a senior-heavy team, but the juniors are going to play significant minutes. We have nine or 10 legitimate candidates to be good players this year."
At the top of the list is Tracy Ramsey.
Ramsey had a breakout junior year in 2008-09. He developed into the go-to guy while averaging 18 points and 11 rebounds per game.
"I'm sure that he will lead us in a lot of offensive categories," Blackwell said. "He's really developing an ability to shoot the ball. He's so strong. One-on-one, he's very difficult to handle in the low post."
Blackwell also noted senior A.J. Barringer is one of his players to keep an eye on this season.
Barringer got some time on varsity as a sophomore before flourishing in his role as a junior.
A good spot-up shooter and defender, he'll contribute on both ends of the floor.
"A.J. is intelligent," Blackwell said. "He's hands-down been the best defender on the floor for us. I mean, he's really good. He can shoot the lights out. I feel good with A.J. out there."
