Agape to host annual holiday meal

»  Comments | Post a Comment

After feeding about 175 people last November, Agape Community Outreach will offer food and fellowship this Thanksgiving Day at its 17th Annual Thanksgiving Dinner.

Held at the Mooresville Soup Kitchen on South Broad Street from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Nov. 26, the dinner is free and open to all people in need of a holiday meal, from the homeless to widows and those eating alone, said representatives from Agape.

Calling last year "a great success," Agape owners Jim and Sarah Carr said they "expect it to be the same this year" when they announced the event earlier this week.

"We believe the patrons at the MSK enjoy the fellowship and the homey environment," said Sarah Carr.

With a menu that includes chicken, turkey, ham, pork chops and ribs, the bounty will be plentiful with sweet corn, potato salad, collard greens, rolls, cole slaw, macaroni and cheese and much more. For dessert? Homemade cakes, pie and cookies.

Volunteers and donations are needed to make the event a success. If you can help, contact the Carrs at 704-663-3168.

At First Baptist, too

The Mooresville Christian Mission will also host a free Thanksgiving meal. The fifth annual Community Thanksgiving Dinner will be held at First Baptist Church, 150 S. Church St., on Thanksgiving Day from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Meals are also available for take out at St. Paul's United Methodist Church on Perth Road during that time.
Valerie Chamberlain, executive director of the Mission, said a higher need is anticipated this Thanksgiving due to the poor economy.
"Thanksgiving is a luxury at this point for a lot of families," she said.
Last year, more than 1,400 meals were served on Thanksgiving at four different Mooresville locations, with deliveries to shut-ins.
The celebration, however, relies entirely on donations and volunteer support from the community, local churches, businesses and individuals.

For senior citizens
Living Water Ministry and Campbell Missionary Baptist Church will hold a free Thanksgiving Dinner for senior citizens on Saturday, Nov. 21, at the Winnie Hooper Center in Mooresville. It's from noon to 2 p.m.
