Man charged with ethnic intimidation

A Statesville man faces an ethnic intimidation charge after authorities said he used threatening racial slurs to a neighbor.

Allen Edward Brown, 52, of Scotts Creek Road, was also charged with communicating threats.

Iredell County Sheriff Phil Redmond said deputies responded to Kite Lane on Friday night concerning a dispute between neighbors.

While on the way, deputies were told the suspect was making threats and racial remarks.

Deputy Brandon Taylor arrived and spoke with Brown, who said the neighbor's children were throwing rocks in the yard, and the children's mother came outside and began arguing with him. Redmond said Brown admitted to using a racial slur to the woman.

Taylor spoke to the woman, who said Brown began yelling at her children, and she came outside to confront him, Redmond said. She said Brown used the racial slur and threatened to harm her children, authorities said.

Deputies assisted the woman in obtaining the warrant, and when arresting Brown, Redmond said, he used a racial slur towards her again.

Brown was released from the Iredell County Detention Center after posting an $11,000 bond.
