Vikings have four candidates for point guard

»  Comments | Post a Comment

Most high school teams feel fortunate to have two capable point guards that make the offense run.

South Iredell has four.

Deshon Burch and Zach Leaptrott split time at the position last year, and now a pair of juniors on the varsity squad will also push for minutes.

Keith Lawrence and Tyrell Mattox have both been impressive.

"I'm not sure who's playing best at point for us right now," Vikings coach Jim Blackwell said. "We have two kids who are juniors who are pretty good players with the ball. Keith Lawrence has been tremendous and he might be the best passer in the group. And Tyrell, man is he lightning quick. He might be our best on-the-ball defender as far as guarding the opposing team's point guard.

"We'll have to find ways to get all of them on the floor throughout the game."
