West Iredell kicked off its wrestling season by going 1-1 at Thursday's tri-match against Alexander Central and Wilkes Central.
The Warriors opened with a 63-13 loss to 4A Alexander Central, but bounced back to beat Wilkes Central 54-21.
Matthew Hubbard (140 pounds) and Ryan Daining (171) both went 2-0 for West. Hubbard was particularly impressive, winning both his matches via first-period pinfall.
Marcus Dalton got West's only other individual victory against the Cougars with his 9-6 decision.
Other winners against Wilkes Central were Taylor Gomez (103), Corey Masquef (125), Quincy Murdock (130), Jordan Pegram (145), Deshaun Pegram (160), Josh Ellis (189), Marquis Dobbins (215) and Clark Dotson (Hwt).
