The Crisis Intervention Program, offered through the Iredell County Department of Social Services, finally received some long-awaited funds this week.
The county received $121,904 on Thursday to provide low-income households with assistance in heating- or cooling-related emergencies.
The county department ran out of money for the federally funded assistance program on Aug. 25. The new allocation nearly equals the county's first two allocations, which totaled $120,994.
DSS Intake Supervisor Sandy Marrow said local residents are already applying and the department sent out public service announcements to alert others about the funding on Friday.
From July 1, 2008, through June 30 of this year, DSS distributed $595,392 to local residents who qualified for the program, Morrow said.
The assistance cap for CIP is set at $400 per household per fiscal year, she said.
