Lake Norman's wrestling season got off to a strong start over the weekend, finishing third among 18 teams at the Bulldog Duals hosted by J.M. Robinson High in Concord.
The Wildcats posted a record of 4-1. They defeated South Point, Cox Mill, J.L. Mann and East Gaston each by 54 or more points. Their only loss (36-26) was to 4A powerhouse Davie County.
Ron Karns (103 pounds), Nick Rodrigues (135), Mike Hayes (145), Josh Smith (160) and Viktor Falkner (171) were all a perfect 5-0 in their matches. Smith was most impressive, recording four first-period pins.
Lake Norman returns to the mat Wednesday when it competes in the Maverick Duals at Marvin Ridge High.
