Troutman native, Matthews police officer earns master's degree

Matthews Police Capt. Carla Thompson, of Troutman, earned a master's degree in criminal justice from the Andrew Jackson University in Birmingham, Ala.

Thompson has worked at the Matthews Police Department for 21 years. She oversees the Patrol Division. Prior to joining the Matthews Police Department she worked with the State Bureau of Investigation and the UNC Charlotte Police Department.

A native of Iredell County, she is active in the community serving as a little league softball and baseball coach, a volunteer for Special Olympics and the Muscular Dystrophy Association. She is an active member of Idlewild Baptist Church where is participates in the Faith Sunday School Class. She is a B.L.E.T. instructor at South Piedmont Community College and serves on the Curriculum Advisory Boards at South Piedmont Community College and Stanly Community College.
