Four flu shot clinics slated for Iredell this month

»  Comments | Post a Comment

The Iredell County Health Department will distribute seasonal and H1N1 flu vaccines during four clinics this month, the first of which is today in Mooresville.

Individuals who qualify will not be charged for the vaccines.

Because of a shortage, the seasonal flu vaccine will be available only for individuals aged 6 months to 18 years, pregnant women who don't have Medicaid or health insurance and Iredell County School personnel with proper identification.

The nasal spray and the injectable forms of the H1N1 vaccine will also be available.

The initial shipments of H1N1 vaccine will go to pregnant women, household contacts and caregivers for infants younger than 6 months, health care and emergency medical service workers, all people between the ages of 6 months and 24 years and people aged 25-64 years who have health conditions that lead to a higher risk of medical complications from the H1N1 flu.

Health officials say it is safe to take both vaccines on the same day.

The health department is expecting to receive weekly shipments of the H1N1 vaccine over the coming months.

Some local physician offices and pharmacies will also be receiving the H1N1 vaccine.
