Hibriten made itself right at home on Mooresville's homecoming.
The visiting Panthers, ranked No. 2 in the state among 3A teams, never punted, threw just one pass and had it all going their way all night in roughing up the non-conference host Blue Devils 62-21.
The rare late-season meeting between the two different classification opponents featured a pair of teams heading in drastically different directions.
With the win, Hibriten (9-0) stayed unbeaten at winless Mooresville's (0-9) expense.
"Again," summed up Steve McCurry, Mooresville's first-year head coach, "we didn't play well. Being undersized and as young as we are, we have to play hard to be successful. We didn't do that tonight. We didn't show much heart or have any enthusiasm."
It showed.
After the two teams matched early first-quarter scores, Hibriten embarked on a 42-point unanswered rampage to spoil the festivities with a comfortable 49-7 halftime lead.
Mooresville's lone tally of the first half came courtesy of quarterback Patrick O'Brien's 11-yard touchdown pass to Shawn Lester.
From there, Hibriten ruled.
The guests hung up a string of six straight scores to all but put the issue to bed. Quarterback Michael Isbell rammed in a pair of 1-yard keepers, coupled with an accompanying pair of Leo Guervera strikes covering 25 and 3 yards, respectively.
Mooresville tried to bounce back from its largest deficit of the night thanks to O'Brien, who threw his second TD pass when finding Jay Willis behind defenders to polish off a 59-yard catch-and-carry play.
O'Brien then called his own number to cap the night's scoring on a 5-yard keeper.
Stymied on the ground, Mooresville relied on O'Brien to carry the offense. He responded by having a hand or feet in on all three scores, passing for two and running for a third. He finished with another near 200 yards through the air.
