Lakeshore Middle won the opener of Wednesday's three-game championship event by beating Statesville Middle 8-6.
In the second quarter, Braden Morrow tossed a 23-yard touchdown pass to Alex Crosby to put Lakeshore up 6-0. Morrow then completed the two-point conversion pass to Austin Garabato.
Jatavius Bowman and Statesville Middle responded immediately with Bowman's 50-yard kickoff return for a score.
Statesville (2-5) tried to run it in for the extra point, but didn't make it into the end zone.
The Lakers (2-5) held up on defense the rest of the way to secure the victory.
