President Barack Obama will deliver a televised address to students across the country on Tuesday, Sept. 8, at noon, seeking to encourage them "to work hard, stay in school and take responsibility for their learning," according to Dreisa Sherrill, director of Human Resources and Public Information for the Mooresville Graded School District.
She said the MGSD plans to allow the speech to be viewed by students in grades 3-12. Due to the timing, the regular lunch schedule will not be interrupted for the viewing.
If parents prefer that their child not participate in this event, they should send a note to their child's teacher so that they may have a different instructional activity in another classroom during the broadcast, Sherrill said.
