Mitchell Community College has planned a ceremony for Friday to honor those who died in the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, 2001.

Faculty, staff, students and the public are invited to participate in a moment of silence on the main campus circle.

"It's to remember those who lost their lives in the horrible terrorist attacks," said MCC spokeswoman Kathy Holland.

The ceremony is scheduled for 8:50 a.m.

Additional ceremonies will take place simultaneously at the Mooresville Center, cosmetology center, and Continuing Education building.

The tower bell at Broad Street United Methodist Church will sound for three minutes starting at 8:50 a.m. The Central United Methodist Church near the Mooresville Center will ring its bells for three minutes as well.

The remembrance ceremonies will last about five minutes.

Holland anticipates increased participation in the ceremony this year because of the increased enrollment.
