Weed and Seed program accepting funding applications

STATESVILLE, N.C. - South Statesville Restoring Our Community Weed and Seed is accepting applications for grant funds for non-profits.

Weed and Seed is a Department of Justice program and grant funds support efforts to improve the South Statesville community by weeding out the bad elements and seeding in positive ones.

The program assists local non-profit organizations that service residents and businesses in the target area. Organizations can apply for between $2,500 and $25,000.

Weed and Seed coordinator Tim May said about $60,000 is available.

Applications can be picked up at the South Statesville Skills Center, 1415 Shelton Ave., Statesville Housing Authority, 110 W. Allison St. and the Statesville Police Department at the corner of Tradd and Sharpe streets.

Applications are due back to the South Statesville Skills Center by 5 p.m. on Feb. 19.
