With treacherous roads closing schools in Iredell County's two school districts earlier this week, both are re-working their calendars to make up for those missed instruction days.
For Iredell-Statesville Schools, officials are utilizing previously identified potential make-up days for the three days – Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday – schools shuttered this week.
I-SS Spokesperson Dawn Creason said students will attend school on Feb. 15, March 15 and April 2 to compensate for the three missed days.
A fourth day is also planned into the district calendar if it were needed, said Creason. However, if I-SS schools were to close for a fifth day this school year, she noted that district officials and school board members would have to discuss their make-up options.
Although the Mooresville Graded School District flagged specific days – first May 17, then April 2, 9 and 11 – in its school schedule for inclement weather make-up, spokesperson Dreisa Sherrill said Thursday that officials may revisit the previously approved list before making a final decision.
"We are still waiting, based on the fact that we may have some more bad weather," she said. "We may have the board request a change to that."
Sherrill said the make-up days for the this week's missed days – Monday and Tuesday – will be determined at Tuesday night's board of education meeting.
